Adaptation and Landscape Integration Project for the Cagarrell Trail and the Perimeter Road of the Alt Empordà CTR
Client: Consell Comarcal de l’Alt Empordà

Landscape Integration of the Cagarrell Trail
The adaptation and landscape integration project for the Cagarrell trail and the perimeter road of the Alt Empordà CTR (Pedret i Marzà) restores 788 m of cycling trail and establishes landscape criteria for the entire route, serving as the foundation for a future educational itinerary.
The intervention focuses on minimal and reversible actions: grading and leveling, maintenance of ditches and drainage, stabilization of the existing roadbed, and delimitation with wooden sleepers, while respecting the topography and hydrogeology of the stream. Boundary marking, signage, and site furniture are resolved with discrete elements—ranch-style fencing, wooden posts and rope, or wooden sleepers—to organize usage and limit motorized traffic without compromising the natural character of the landscape.
The project includes small-scale ecological restoration actions, such as:
• Removal of invasive exotic flora.
• Creation of a vegetation buffer featuring broadleaf trees.
• Construction of a small pond as a biodiversity reservoir.
Selected project for the 2026 Girona Architecture Awards, organized by the COAC, in the Landscapes category.
